MiraMon is going to participate in the OGC Technical Comitee Meeting Joan Masó, member of MiraMon team will participate, next week, in the OGC Technical Comitee Meeting, in Valencia. In the context of OGC's WMS.SWG group, he is the editor of the document OGC 05-057 - Web Map Tiling Service Standard candidate and the speaker of the session RESTful and SOAP bindings for WMTS in the theme of Architecture DWG, the 1st of December at 16.20h in the 2nd hall.

MiraMon is attending the FOSS4G (Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial Conference), which lists the main contributions of free and open source software in the field of GIS. Among the activities planned, on Wednesday at 15:30 it will participate in an informal chat (called Birds of a Feather) on the coordination of the activities of the OGC and OSGeo in the field of interactive maps that use "tiles" as the optimization. MiraMon is present in the exhibition with a booth dedicated to the two open-source initiatives currently under way: the browser MiraMon Map and an encoder and decoder of JPEG2000 called Boí. Also it will be an open session demo of 10 minutes.

XIII Congreso Nacional de Tecnologías de la Información Geográfica.
MiraMon team and other members from CREAF and from the research unit GRUMETS are going to participate in the XIII Congreso Nacional de Tecnologías de la Información Geográfica, that is going to take place from the 15th to the 19th of September 2008 in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria,
with two papers, four posters and one technical conference. On 16th and 17th of September, members of the team will teach the course “Topología aplicada al análisis
SIG: Fundamentos y herramientas". From 16th to 18th of September a MiraMon stand will be setup.

The Cartographic Browser of the Departament d'Agricultura, Alimentació i Acció Rural, Direcció General de Pesca i Acció Marítima: SIGPesca has been already presented. At the Casa del Mar of Barcelona Mr. Ramon Jordana and Mr. Xavier Pons conducted the lecture "El SIGPesca, an interoperable tool for the coastal knowledgement".

ENVIRONMENT Awards.
Dr. Xavier Pons, representing the Grup de Mètodes i Aplicacions en Teledetecció i Sistemes d’Informació Geogràfica (Grumets) of the Geography department got the award for the best research project, development and innovation in water management. The event took place on Tuesday 5th of June at 18:30h at the Mercat de les Flors in Barcelona. On this event, 18 awards and 5 mentions were given to different initiatives of research, development, care and improvement of the water quality or the reduction and waste recycling.

7th Week Geomatics, GlobalGeo and VI Forum GIT-GIS 2007.
The group of research and development of MiraMon will be present at 7th Geomatics
Week in the Conference Hall of Fira de Barcelona that will be from 20th to 23rd
February of 2007, with four papers and a poster. In GlobalGeo, from the 20th to the
22nd February, a stand of MiraMon will be set and two showrooms will be carried out. The contributions to the
VI Forum GIT-GIS will be a presentation and the participation in a round table that is going to be the 21st
February.

Free MiraMon for the public and educational sectors in Catalonia.
On March 29, 2006, action following the agreement between Department of
Universities, Research and Information Society of the Catalan government
(DURSI) and CREAF was started. It allows the public
and educational sectors in Catalonia to use the MiraMon software at no cost.
DURSI, in accordance to its declared support to the knowledge society, research and
scientific and technical development, provides funding for the development
of the complete version of MiraMon for four years. CREAF acknowledges the
value of this agreement since it will guarantee the continuation of an
important part of the MiraMon development team and a very important boost to
the dissemination of the program.

All cartographic series of the Cartographic Institute of Catalonia will soon be able in MiraMon format.
Thanks to the agreement signed in January 2006 between the Cartographic
Institute of Catalonia (ICC) and CREAF all official cartography of Catalonia produced by ICC (1:50000 and
1:5000 topographic maps, 1:25000 and 1:5000 ortophotos, etc) will be
available in 2006 in MiraMon format. Users will be able to choose
between buying it in ICC shops in CD/DVD support or to freely download them
on the Internet.
CREAF acknowledges the historical importance of this agreement for the
MiraMon project since it will allow to have the cartography for the whole
country freely available to all citizens of Catalonia in MiraMon format
(free MiraMon Map Reader and MiraMon Professional). This will not only
avoid to carry out tedious import processes but,
specially, it will guarantee access to an excellent product in an optimal
format for performing GIS operations with MiraMon.
