Over 90 Online Map Services Available

Through a grant from ESRI we have been able to install a data appliance here at the CERES Digital Atlas.  This appliance brings the total number of online map services available to over 90.  View our online metadata to learn more about each service. This includes a street map and high resolution aerial imagery for the USA, lower resolution reference map for the world, and much more.

To see what we have, you can connect to our services via ArcGIS Desktop or ArcGIS Explorer by opening the following URL with those applications: http://atlas.resources.ca.gov/arcgis/services.

Where did the main Atlas map go?

  You may have noticed that some of the online map services are offline right now.  The reason for that is we are undergoing a significant upgrade in our software that will enable us to create more services to offer the public.  Currently, the former atlas is being rebuilt with the ability to view the map information in 2D and 3D.

Shown here are links to online services provided by the GIO's office at the Resources Agency.  Our first two public services are a pair of street address geocoding services.  Users can connect to these services via ESRI's ArcCatalog or SOAP.

For SOAP users, click on the links provided here.  That will provide "WSDL" information.

For ArcCatalog users, do the following or download the PowerPoint "How To" document (see link):

1. Open ArcCatalog, and expand the "GIS Servers" node in the table of contents.
2. Double click on "Add ArcGIS Server."
3. Check "Use GIS Servers" then click on "Next."
4. Choose "Internet" and then type into the "Server URL:" the following text: http://atlas.resources.ca.gov/arcgis/services.
5. Then, click "Finished." No user name or password is necessary.

Along with the two geocoding services mentioned here, you should also see various map services that you can use.
