Hydrographic Services
The Port of Tyne is responsible for undertaking hydrographic surveys of the channels and berths within the Port's limits.
The pilot launch Lynceus is fitted with sophisticated depth and position recording equipment to provide survey and other hydrographic data.
The information collected from the Keel mounted RESON 8101 swathe sounder with RTK GPS is processed and used  for the production of navigation charts to ascertain dredging requirements and for engineering purposes.
The Port's hydrographic services and itsgrab hopper dredger, 'Hedwin', are available for commercial contracts. All enquiries can be directed through the Port Operations and Information Service.
Dredging Project Services
The Port also undertakes dredging and bed levelling operations using their own 667gt Grab Hopper Dredger "Hedwin". In addition to the Hedwin we sub contract dredging operations to other cutter suction, plough and backhoe dredgers.
We offer a contract management service for all such dredging operations on private frontages."
